At "A Spa Above" we offer a variety of Salicylic Peels. We will discuss the best percentage for optimal results!
What is a Salicylic Peel? A salicylic peel (aka beta peel) is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory peel. It works well with acne and solar damaged skin. A salicylic peel is the application of Salicylic acid to the skins surface to digest debris that accumulates, causing acne. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy (BHA) acid derived from the bark of the willow tree and is chemically similar to the main component of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid).
What is the pretreatment preparation? In order to get the best result from a salicylic peel, we recommend using products containing salicylic acid and/or benzol peroxide. There are other options available which may be recommended after your skin analysis and/or treatment.
What to expect during a professional peel? Your skin will be cleansed and dried. Solution (% varies) will be applied and you will begin to feel a slight itching, tingling sensation during the treatment. The amount of time the solution is kept the skin will vary approximately 1 – 4 minutes. Once the peel has taken place, the skin will be neutralized, dried followed by a ten minute, LED session, high frequency or a mask to help calm the area. Lastly, an anti-inflammatory gel plus a moisturizer with sunscreen will be applied.
What to expect after the Salicylic Peel: The skin will take on a glow as a result of the exfoliation caused by the peeling process. Salicylic acid peels are generally effective at reducing the quantity and quality of active acne lesions. The skin is less oily and clearer after this peel. Peeling may or may not occur…however, in either case, the peel will be as effective.
What are the Post-treatment instructions: Avoid therapeutic home-care products such as salicylic acid or Retin A for 48hrs. These products may be too irritating and may cause the skin to become erythemic and sensitive. The skin should be kept soft with a moisturizer that is specifically designed for post-peeling. Any hot spots should be kept soft with Elta MD intense moisturizer (sold at office) or Aquaphor (local drugstore). On the third day, an enzyme mask may be used to aid with the exfoliation process. We encourage SPF 30+ to be worn at all times after any of our professional treatments.
How often is a Salicylic Peel required? For Grade I acne, we recommend a peel every 3 weeks until skin begins to clear. Grade II acne, it is recommended every 2 weeks. For control of oily skin, it is suggested every 4-6 weeks.
